Artist Date: Sacred Place
With the rain drowning out the possibility of me going anywhere else, I retreated to the only sacred place I knew that was available to me whatever the weather- The library.
And the cool thing about the library is that it's a great place to meditate (or try to, in my case. I'm still working on it.) The quiet is enforced, and more often than not there are few people there- or at least the people are spaced out enough that it seems like it. Plus, you're surrounded by books, so you're constantly reminded of all the people who came before. All the great authors and scientists, all the prominent politicians and playwrights, all the feminist activists and chicano poets. There's all this evidence of extraordinary people who've influenced the world you live in without ever even meeting you. It provides a lot to contemplate.
It was also pretty cool just sitting there, with the rain against the windows and the distant roll of thunder. So even though I was stressed and slightly damp, it was still really peaceful and relaxing. I felt really refreshed.
...and then I had to go out and face the weather. Oh well. Everything has it's time I guess
