Artist Date: Daughters of the Rainbow
So one of the first and most prominent things about me is that I love the Wizard of Oz. Like, anyone who knows me particularly well will tell you it's my #1 area of expertise. I could write essays about the Wizard of Oz and all its adaptations.
And I mean like, the original Wizard of Oz (not to sound hipster about it), not just the movie. I bought a compilation of the first fifteen books at Barnes and Noble and got waaaay to invested.
See, there's all these minor characters that never get a lot of attention, which I think is a shame and an spectacular waste (especially in the case of Ozma, who is probably the first and closest thing to a transgender princess in mainstream media). I get really attached to minor characters in general, which brings me to my artist date.
A recurring character in the books is Polychrome, who is the youngest daughter of the Rainbow. She has nineteen sisters.
Like, woah.
Nineteen sisters.
That's like twenty rainbow nymphs all together.
And even though we never see them, they all have names. And me being me, I saw this and I thought "I wonder what they're like?"
And then I was like,
"I'm going to design all of them."
I manage to pump out three of them when Content and Company told me to Drop Everything and Create, and then Jonathan got really invested in them, so I'm more or less obligated to complete this project.
I pumped out three more for my artist date, and it's turning into a really awesome poster. Check it:
(From top to bottom is Aurora, Curcubeu, Arcobaleno, Alouette, Aquarelle, and Arcenciel)
