The Artist Way: Week Three
This book is really creative. I would never have thought up a lot of these exercises. For Example:
"List five people who are dead who you would have liked to meet while they were alive. Now list five people who are dead with whom you'd like to hang out with for awhile in eternity. What traits do you find in these people that you can look for in your friends?"
I think the first two questions are ones that have been asked at every social gathering ever, but the last one threw me a curveball- It asked me to take my fantasy scenario and utilize it in my everyday life. I thought that was really clever.
Anyway the lists as follows, in case you were curious:
Who I Wish I Met While They Were Alive

Anyway the lists as follows, in case you were curious:
Who I Wish I Met While They Were Alive
- My Grandma Nina
- My Uncle Oscar
- Carrie Fisher
- Kyle Jean-Baptiste
- Robin Williams
Who I'd Hang Out With In the Afterlife
- Maya Angelou
- Vita Sackville West
- Shakespeare
- Oscar Wilde
- John Laurens
The first two on this list are obviously very personal to me ( Never meeting my Grandma Nina will always be my biggest regret, and while I have met my Uncle Oscar while he was alive, I don't remember him well enough.) but the other eight are mostly just the product of intellectual curiosity and my deep love of gossip. I want to ask these people questions about their lives and learn the truth of some long uncovered mysteries. But is there a pattern to them?
I'd say I'm looking for people who have lived very rich lives and impact the people around them, in even the minorest of ways. People who are worldly. People who are clever. People who are funny. People who are good with words.People who are scandalous. People who are depressed. Or some combination of those traits. I'm sure there are tons of people like that in the world, I just have to meet them.
